1. Application (M.A. No. 247 of 2018) has been filed by the State of Karnataka for extension of time for implementation of the judgment passed by this Court in B.K. Pavitra v. Union of India, (2017) 4 SCC 620.

2. Mr. Basava Prabhu S. Patil, learned senior counsel appearing for the State, stated that substantial follow-up action has already been carried out to enable the process to be completed. A copy of the status of finalising the seniority lists in several departments has been placed on record by Mr. Patil.

3. In view of above, we finally grant time to the State till the 15th March, 2018 to do the needful.

4. It is made clear that any proposed legislation will be no justification not to carry out the judgment of this court. Needless to say that if any legislation is brought on the subject, the same can be applied, subject to its validity, as and when such legislation is made. We do not express any opinion with regard to permissibility of such a legislation at this stage.

5. This order need not hold up the process wherever seniority list is finalised and the State is free to proceed in the matter.

6. M.A. NO. 247 of 2018 is disposed of accordingly.
