1. Without prejudice to the rights of the parties to contest these matters on merits, Mr. Kapil Sibal, learned senior counsel appearing on behalf of respondent No. 3 submits that his client is prepared to pay Rs. 800,00,00,000/- (Rupees eight hundred crores) towards full and final settlement of the claim [which includes Rs. 691,00,00,000/- (Rupees six hundred ninety one crores) towards principal amount] over and above which has already been paid, whereas Mr. K.K. Venugopal, learned Attorney General for India submits that the total claim as on today is Rs. 2,384.26 crores. Said figure is however disputed by Mr. Kapil Sibal, learned senior counsel.
2. In our opinion, it is for the parties to decide whether they wish to settle the matter outside the court or to decide the matter on merits. We make it clear that we have not expressed anything as regards rival statements.
3. List these matters for final disposal on 27th September, 2018.
